God’s Chosen What? #2

http://www.renegadetribune.com/gods-chosen-2/

One has to understand the structure of Jewish scriptures in order to fully comprehend them. Last time we found a passage within the Zohar where it clearly states that Jews were not “chosen” – quite the opposite – God supposedly wanted every other possible nation to receive his “Torah” and once nobody gave a damn about it : He finally came to the Jews. Alas, even within that explanation we saw how God asked the Jews “Why do you want the Torah?”, implying that Jews themselves supposedly came to him and begged for it. Since he then gives them a set of laws which tells them not to kill each other, steal from each other, rape each others wives – one can imagine what kind of a demonic society the Jews were – and besides, why would the Aryan societies need these laws anyways? For they come with a sinister payment : The total submission and enslavement to “Yahweh” and his “Will”. If you wonder what “Yahweh” worship does to you – you can always look at Islam, Judaism and brainwashed Christians. No wonder the Pagan Aryan societies denied “him”, if one were to believe these Jewish fairy tales anyways.

Be that as it may, as said, one has to understand the Jewish scriptures. The blueprint and foundation of them is the Bible. The Bible is a collection of stolen mythologies, documents, texts from various other people around the Jews and it also includes supposed Jewish science-fiction history with a God killing all their enemies. In a way, it is a mix of mythological stories and a war-journal. The Talmud afterwards is entirely based on laws which they stole during their life alongside Babylonians and Palestinians – hence why we have two types of Talmuds : The Babylonian and The Jerusalem. The Jews claim that these existed since the dawn of time, but were merely transmitted orally from God to Moses, from Moses to 70-ish elder Jews and so on. They claim that these laws explain the Torah and are inseparable from the Torah – in other words – you cannot know “God” without knowing both the written law (The Torah, Bible) and the oral law (Talmud). However, the Talmud is a compilation of laws, up to the degree were Jewish Rabbis discuss when and how to sell an apple, when and how to buy wine, when and how to buy a slave, whether or not switching meat on a fire after a Gentile did it is allowed, etc.

A set of nonsense, in short. This Talmud is then further extended, to make it more mystical, with various mythologies turned into macrocosm and microcosm theories – primarily based on stolen Aryan, Chaldean and Egyptian knowledge and wisdom – and would be called the Kabbalah. The early Christian fathers knew of it and called it the “Teachings of the Elders”. This is why, if you have read my articles so far, you will find Kabbalistic messages within the words of the early Christian fathers – alas, of course – in addition to their Christian brainwashing of Universalism. This Kabbalah is then once more extended into a Jewish science fiction book called the Zohar, which is again, just like the Talmud, a Rabbinical collection of debates, laws and theories. As these texts progress, so does the Jewish Mission – it begins with “simple enslavement” of the Goyim and ends with their total Extermination. By the way, do you really think the Jews aren’t already writing a “European Talmud”? This time, we shall go through quotes from the Babylonian Talmud, namely the text called Avodah Zarah :

The Jewish mind must be permanently on mushrooms. There is no other explanation for their bullshit. So apparently both the Romans and Persians were conversing with Yahweh one on one and first sent him to hell but then somewhat arranged a deal to make everything for Israel, that is to say Jews, so that they could study God’s fucking book – the Torah – a compilation of Laws where it literally tells them to enslave non-Jews and apply Usury on them. Superb logic. Everyone is just and only trying to impress God by serving the Jews – you have no other purpose in your Life, silly Goy. And all of this happened, mind you, before God even created Day and Night. We also learn how God is a Man of War and wants all the Silver and Gold of this world for himself – why not just create it for yourself you fucking imbecile of a God?

The Messiah will come once Rome and Persia are gone. Well, where are they? Jews killed Persia with Islam and Rome with Christianity. Ain’t that a cohen-cidence? So, where is this fucking Messiah? Anyways, here is another funny thing :

Yet Rab Judah said in the name of Rab: ‘The day consists of twelve hours; during the first three hours the Holy One, blessed be He, is occupying Himself with the Torah, during the second three He sits in judgment on the whole world, and when He sees that the world is so guilty as to deserve destruction, He transfers Himself from the seat of Justice to the seat of Mercy, during the third quarter, He is feeding the whole world, from the horned buffalo to the brood of vermin; during the fourth quarter He is sporting with the leviathan.

Right – and the other 12 hours he is probably sleeping. Another note says this here :

In the great drama of the Messianic age there will be a combat with the heathen powers under the leadership of God and Magog. Or this one : Our Rabbis taught : God is angry every day, but how long does His anger last? – A moment. And how long is a moment? – one fifty three thousand eight hundred forty eight of an hour is a moment. In dealing with Israel, God is ever mindful of His oft repeated promise of their eternal preservation.

Additionally, the Torah is mentioned once more later on : R. Simeon b. Lakish said: What is the meaning of the verse, And it was evening and it was morning the sixth day? It teaches us that the Holy One, blessed be He, made a condition with all creation, saying, If Israel will accept the Torah all will be well, but if not, I will turn the world void and without form. It goes on to say :

It means therefore that the effect of Israel’s acceptance of the Torah would be that no nation or tongue could prevail against them, as it is said, that it might be well with them and their children after them

There is one extremely funny part within this text where a Roman Caesar hated Jews and told the members of his government : “If one has a wart on his foot, shall he cut if away and live in comfort or leave it on and suffer discomfort?”, to which they replied “He should cut it away and live in comfort”. Quite the description of them, wouldn’t you agree? Anyways, later on Jews say that heathens “prefer the cattle of Israelites to their own wives”, implying that non-Jews are going around fucking every animal there is. They go as far as to claim that a non-Jewish female must not be left alone with a female animal because a heathen will go around and seek out his neighbors wife to rape her and – if he sees the animal as well – he will rape the animal also.

Then we learn how Jews trick Non-Jews. There is a story in which a Gentile woman is telling a Jew a secret, but she does it under one condition : He must swear to her that he won’t reveal it to anyone else. The Jew says “I swear, to the God of Israel I will not reveal it”. Afterwards he told it every single Jew alive and yet did nothing wrong – Jews offer the following argument : “To the God of Israel I will not reveal, implying that I may reveal it to His people Israel.” In other words, he won’t tell God. That’s it.

Finally, we read this: The General Agrippa asked R. Gamaliel, ‘It is written in your Torah, For the Lord thy God is a devouring fire, a jealous God. Is a wise man jealous of any but a wise man, a warrior of any but a warrior, a rich man of any but a rich man? He replied, ‘I will give you a parable: To what is the matter like? To a man who marries an additional wife. If the second wife is her superior, the first will not be jealous of her, but if she is her inferior, the first wife will be jealous of her.’ Oh, and here is a tip on how you can get money from Jews – you have to become a Ger Toshab, renounce Paganism, Idolatry and accept the Seven Laws of Noah and bow down to the Jews. If you do all that, the Talmud says : If a Gentile renounced idolatry and became poor he must receive support from the Jewish community. Ain’t that a recipe for creating traitors among your own people.

Jews are crazy man. Stay away from them. Remove the wart.

Jews Greatly Disturbed Over Adolf Hitler Clone in Serbia

The Jewish press has caught wind of a man who looks like Adolf Hitler currently residing in Kosovo.

The man believes he is Hitler reincarnated and charges money for photos he takes with tourists.  He even carries a copy of “Mein Kampf” around with him and is proud of his resemblance to the former German leader.  Needless to say, the Jews are greatly disturbed over this and are crying a new Holocaust over it.

From Times of Israel:

Kosovo resident Emin Djinovci apparently believes such a film would be the story of his life. The 49-year-old Hitler lookalike, who claims to be the Nazi leader reincarnated, charges over $90 for photos he takes with tourists, according to the United Kingdom’s Mirror.

Hitler lookalikes are nothing new. Just last month, an actor dressed like Hitler appeared throughout Germany’s Dresden in an effort to promote a new film.

However, the disturbing thing about Djinovci is that he is proud of the resemblance. He carries a copy of “Mein Kampf” around with him at all times. He calls his five daughters “Hitler’s children.” And he claims to make a living off his tourist photographs.

After Pledging to Donate Salary, Trump Declines to Release Proof

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/after-pledging-donate-salary-trump-declines-release-proof-n732466

President Donald Trump pledged to forgo a presidential salary, but as his second payday approaches, the White House is declining to say if the president has donated any of his earnings yet.

During the campaign, Trump promised he would take “no salary” if elected — a pledge he reiterated after he won.

“I’m not going to the take the salary,” he said on CBS’ 60 Minutes” in November.

The Constitution, however, requires that the president receive a salary, and that it not be reduced during his term. Federal law mandates the president receive a $400,000 annual salary, paid out once a month.

Trump aides have previously said Trump would donate his salary to the Treasury Department or a charity.

MSNBC requested details and documentation about any salary donations from the White House, the Treasury Department and the Office of Personnel Management, which all declined to say whether Trump has donated any of his salary to date. (OPM referred questions to the White House.)

Last month, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the website Politifact that Trump “will be giving” his salary “back to Treasury or donating.” The site noted the White House “declined to answer several inquiries into whether Trump has gotten a paycheck already.”

Under the law, Trump would receive his first monthly paycheck for $33,333 in February, and another $33,333 on March 20.

Salary donations are not the only area where Trump’s pledges to donate revenue are lacking transparency.

During the transition, Trump also unveiled a plan to “donate all profits from foreign governments’ patronage of his hotels and similar businesses” to the Treasury Department. The plan was released by Trump’s private law firm, Morgan Lewis, but no system or accounting has been released for how or when such donations will be processed or disclosed.

Journalist Accuses Israel of Fukushima Sabotage

By Richard Walker

A leading Japanese journalist recently made two incredible claims about the Fukushima power plant that suffered a nuclear meltdown in March 2011, sending shockwaves around the world. First, the former editor of a national newspaper in Japan says the U.S. and Israel knew Fukushima had weapons-grade uranium and plutonium that were exposed to the atmosphere after a massive tsunami wave hit the reactor. Second, he  contends that Israeli intelligence sabotaged the reactor in retaliation for Japan’s support of an independent Palestinian state.

According to Yoichi Shimatsu, a former editor of Japan Times Weekly, these nuclear materials were shipped to the plant in 2007 on the orders of Dick Cheney and George W. Bush, with the connivance of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The shipment was in the form of warhead cores secretly removed from the U.S. nuclear warheads facility BWXT Plantex near Amarillo, Texas. While acting as the middleman, Israel transported warheads from the port of Houston, and in the process kept the best ones while giving the Japanese older warhead cores that had to be further enriched at Fukushima.

Shimatsu credits retired CIA agent and mercenary Roland Vincent Carnaby with learning the warheads were being transported from Houston. In a strange twist, Carnaby was mysteriously shot dead less than a year later by Houston police at a traffic stop. He was shot once in the back and once in the chest. He did not have a weapon in his hands. Intelligence sources said he had been tracking a Mossad unit that was smuggling U.S. plutonium out of Houston docks for an Israeli nuclear reactor.

In an even more explosive charge, the journalist says that 20 minutes before the Fukushima plant’s nuclear meltdown, Israel was so upset with Japanese support for a Palestinian declaration of statehood that it double-crossed Japan by unleashing the Stuxnet virus on the plant’s  computers. The virus hampered the shutdown, leading to fallout from a section of the plant housing uranium and plutonium retrieved from the warheads supplied in 2007.

While it is impossible to verify some of Shimatsu’s claims, there was a massive cover-up at the time of the Fukushima disaster in March.  Explosions at the site were immediately downplayed. While it was subsequently reported that three reactors suffered meltdowns, Japanese authorities tried to rate the disaster as a Level 4 on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, although outside experts declared it a 7, which is the highest level.

Something worth noting is how in 2009, two years after Shimatsu says the warheads were secretly moved to Japan, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a veiled warning to Japan not to abandon its anti-nuclear weapons policy.

The IAEA had to know, however, that Japan has long retained the potential to build nuclear weapons. That was made clear as far back as 1996 when a leaked Ministry of Foreign Affairs document exposed how Japan had been promoting a dual strategy in respect to nuclear weapons since the mid-1960s. It would often publicly profess a non-nuclear policy while maintaining the ability to build a nuclear arsenal. The Liberal Democratic Party, which has dominated Japanese politics, has always said there is no constitutional impediment to nukes.

A factor that undoubtedly would have encouraged the Bush-Cheney White House to provide Japan with the means to secretly build nukes was the growing power of China. Cheney and Bush sought to arm Japan and India with nuclear weapons as a means of curbing China.

Lest We Forget– In Israel kids dress up as burning Twin Towers for Purim

The Ugly Truth

ed note–In putting this thing in its proper perspective, imagine for a moment, ladies and Gentile-men, kids dressing up as WWII ‘gas chambers’ for Halloween, as the hangman’s noose that was used to execute Leo Frank, the Jew who was convicted of murdering a little 13 year old girl named Mary Phagin, or as Titus, the Roman general who destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD and sent the Jews on an all expense paid trip into the diaspora?

Oy vey, the noise, screeching, and everything in between…

But when Jews celebrate a successful operation they pulled off on the morning of 9/11 when 3,000 Americans lost their lives, thus kicking off the ‘clash of civilizations’ that they have been planning since the 9th of Av, 70 AD, it is perfectly kosher, just ‘kids-havin-fun’ and all a big joke.

Autistic boy dies after routine dental procedure, report says

Mykel Peterson reportedly had trouble keeping his mouth open during dental appointments.

A Washington family is seeking answers after their 4-year-old son died Friday during a seemingly routine dental procedure that reportedly involved a shot of anesthesia. Mykel Peterson, who was a patient at Must Love Kids dental practice in Vancouver, was on the autism spectrum and had trouble keeping his mouth open during appointments, KGW8 reported.

“He wouldn’t keep his mouth open so they can actually see what’s going on,” Thmeka Curry, Mykel’s  mother, told the news outlet.

The dental practice specializes in treating children with developmental issues and uses a board-certified anesthesiologist. Mykel reportedly was given a shot of Ketamine, a common anesthesia drug, so that he would be sedated while the dentist checked to see if he needed a filling or crown, KGW8 reported.

“The dentist was telling me everything she did with his teeth, and she was going to check to see if he was awake yet,” Curry told KGW8.

Curry told KATU that the anesthesiologist said Mykel was given an extra dose to ensure he did not wake during the procedure.

“The anesthesiologist started to check his pulse and was shaking him and at this point I am still not aware anything happened to my son,” Curry, who was in the waiting room, told KOIN.

Staff members began administering CPR, and paramedics were called to the office. Mykel was transported to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. A medical examiner is investigating to determine a cause of death, while a toxicology report will not be available for up to eight weeks, KATU reported.

“For me right now, it’s more of I just need to know what happened,” Curry told KATU. “So I can have that closure for my son. That’s it.”

A statement from Must Love Kids Pediatric Dentistry said it would be premature to comment on the specifics of the case, but that the office has performed dentistry for pediatric patients under deep sedation and general anesthesia more than 1,900 times without incident over the last three years.

“We contract with an independent, highly qualified and experienced board-certified anesthesiologist for anesthesia services who follow strict protocols, including a pre-operative checkup and clearance by the child’s primary physician prior to the procedure,” the statement said.

A GoFundMe page set up to cover costs of Mykel’s funeral said he will be remembered as a loving, energetic and smart boy.

Murdoch And Trump, An Alliance Of Mutual Interest

The Trump era has opened with the promise of a White House foothold for media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

It looks to be the kind of warm and solicitous reception in the corridors of presidential power that he has long enjoyed abroad.

Murdoch has told close associates that the nation’s 45th president calls to confer frequently — as often as multiple times a week — and that he has visited the White House to meet with Trump more than once.

“They have been friends for a long time,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer wrote in an email to NPR. “They speak on occasion as the president does with all his friends.”

Murdoch sits atop a twin media empire, made up of 21st Century Fox and News Corp, which together include such properties in the United States as The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, New York Post and more than two dozen local television stations.

His interests span journalism, commerce and politics. But Murdoch has repeatedly proved a more pragmatic conservative entrepreneur than pure ideologue.

The White House did not respond to requests to elaborate on the nature or content of Murdoch’s conversations with the president. The Trump administration has not yet released any lists of visitors to the White House, though press aides have said they’re working to set that up. Murdoch’s aides declined to comment altogether, saying his travel and conversations must remain private.

A relationship with benefits

The rapport forged by Murdoch and Trump may prove handy for both men. Murdoch’s news outlets often shine a favorable light on the new president; meanwhile, his media properties have many interests pending before the federal government.

Several examples:

  • Murdoch wants the planned acquisition of the rival entertainment conglomerate Time Warner by telecommunications giant AT&T tempered by federal regulators or lawyers, if not killed. (Trump has denounced the deal but major government intervention currently appears unlikely.) New York magazine reported that Murdoch advised Trump ahead of his selection of the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai.
  • Murdoch, who has long had his eye on the Los Angeles Times, would like federal regulators to ease or lift restrictions that prevent the owners of television stations acquiring major newspapers in the same big city.
  • Federal prosecutors in New York City are investigating Fox News over whether it broke securities laws by masking payments to women who had alleged sexual harassment by former Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes and others at the network. Executives at parent company 21st Century Fox say they are cooperating with the investigation.

The Justice Department last week fired U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, after he refused to resign. Political appointees customarily resign at the beginning of a new administration.

Bharara’s former office is overseeing the Fox News investigation, among many other high-profile cases. The New York Times is reporting that the investigation is moving into the grand jury phase.

Earlier, Bharara had declined to return a phone call placed to his office by President Trump. Without knowing the purpose of the call, Bharara concluded it would be improper to speak with the president.

Ties beyond politics

Trump and Murdoch — two billionaires with Manhattan-based enterprises — would seem to share common interests. Yet their political views do not always align.

Murdoch has publicly adopted a different stance than Trump on some issues, among them immigration. During the transition, Murdoch urged Trump not to embark on mass deportations of people in the country without legal status.

And Murdoch did not initially support Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Some accounts had Murdoch leaning toward Republicans Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. He spoke favorably, briefly, of Ben Carson, now the U.S. secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Via tweet, Murdoch urged former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, himself a billionaire media magnate, to run as an independent.

Yet Murdoch has embraced the new president. And their links extend beyond business and politics.

Murdoch once mentored Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner as the younger man expanded his real estate holdings into New York City. And Ivanka Trump, Jared’s wife and the president’s daughter, until recently helped oversee a trust fund for Murdoch’s young daughters by his ex-wife, Wendi Deng.

Murdoch’s journalism and the president

The alliance is most visibly reflected in the sympathetic coverage Trump generally receives on the front pages of the New York Post, on Fox News’ most popular shows and on the Fox Business Network. Former Fox Business staffer Andrew Kirell recently argued that Fox Business has outflanked even Fox News in its pro-Trump tilt.

The Wall Street Journal has broken news that cast Trump officials and advisers in a bad light. Even so, many reporters have been critical of the paper under its top editor, Gerard Baker, saying that it went easy on Trump during the campaign to mirror the Republican sympathies of Baker and Murdoch.

Murdoch has overseen Fox News since Ailes’ ouster last summer. Though Murdoch’s sons were laying the groundwork for a more centrist tone for the channel, Hillary Clinton’s election loss scuttled those plans. Instead, the tenor of coverage has shifted even further to the right, echoing Trump’s nationalism and hostility to mainstream media.

Murdoch personally selected the largely pro-Trump host Tucker Carlson to replace the departing Megyn Kelly — who was vilified by Trump during the campaign — for her pivotal 9 p.m. nightly spot.

Carlson is scheduled to interview Trump on Wednesday. (The New York Times Magazine is set to interview the president as well.)

At ease in the halls of power

The Oval Office is not foreign terrain for Murdoch, a naturalized U.S. citizen. For more than a half-century, Murdoch has met presidents, including White House meetings with John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.

Kennedy submitted to interviews with Murdoch and one of his editors for two Murdoch newspapers in his native Australia. Incautious remarks by Kennedy led to intense White House pressure to kill the interview, which Murdoch did, according to an extensive account in the Australian Financial Review by one of Murdoch’s Australian biographers, Neil Chenoweth.

Murdoch’s relationships have typically been far closer, however, with prime ministers in Australia and the United Kingdom, where Murdoch expanded his business. Each country’s leader concluded the support of Murdoch’s newspapers could prove crucial to their prospects.

It has become a somewhat humiliating rite of passage for Australian political leaders to stop by Murdoch’s offices on Sixth Avenue in New York City in private visits that almost invariably become public. Some Murdoch aides call that process “kissing the ring.”

In 1995, two years before he became prime minister, British Labour Party leader Tony Blair flew to a small island off the Australian coast to meet the News Corp corporate board and curry favor with Murdoch.

Ahead of his own successful bid, British Conservative leader David Cameron similarly flew (on a plane owned by Murdoch’s then son-in-law) to a Greek island for a brief stop on Murdoch’s yacht.

Britain’s new prime minister Theresa May appears to also have made a practice of such cultivation, even as the Murdoch family presses ahead with ambitions to take over the 61 percent of the British satellite TV company Sky that 21st Century Fox does not already own, an acquisition subject to government approval.

And back on this side of the Atlantic, Murdoch may have landed a closer friend in the White House than he has ever enjoyed.

Somali pirates just hijacked a commercial ship for the first time in five years

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/03/14/somali-pirates-just-hijacked-a-commercial-ship-for-the-first-time-in-five-years/?utm_term=.ee1a18a12d65

In 2010 and 2011, groups of armed Somali men were hijacking merchant vessels off Somalia’s coast at an almost daily pace. Thousands of hostages of myriad nationalities were taken, and billions of dollars were lost on ransoms, damages and delayed shipments.

The crisis was so severe that a naval task force with more than two dozen vessels from European Union countries, the United States, China, Russia, India and Japan banded together to restore order to one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. They largely succeeded. In 2015, there were 17 pirate attacks near Somalia, down from 151 in 2011. Many of those attacks were on smaller fishing boats from nearby countries, mostly by disgruntled Somali fishermen, but not commercial ships.

Until Tuesday.

Somali officials acknowledged that the Aris 13, an oil tanker, had been escorted to the Somali coast by at least eight and perhaps as many as dozens of armed men on two small skiffs. Reports from organizations that monitor piracy could not conclusively identify which flag the ship was flying or where it was owned, but Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that eight of its nationals were on board as crew. The ship was on its way south to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital.

The attack originated in the Puntland region, which is semiautonomous. “The vessel’s captain reported to the company they were approached by two skiffs and that one of them could see armed personnel on board,” an unidentified Middle East-based official told the Associated Press. “The ship changed course quite soon after that report and is now anchored.”

The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet oversees anti-piracy efforts along Somalia’s coast. Concerns about piracy’s reemergence in the region have been growing in concurrence with greater exploitation of Somalia’s waters by foreigners engaged in illegal fishing. Deprived of a livelihood, some Somali fishermen have turned back to hijacking to get by.

Salad Nur, described as a “local elder” by the Associated Press, said that the men involved in Tuesday’s hijacking had been searching for a commercial vessel for days on the open water. “Foreign fishermen destroyed their livelihoods and deprived them of proper fishing,” Nur said.

Piracy is also on the rise on the other side of Africa. Armed groups based along Nigeria’s coast have made that region the most dangerous for seafarers. That coast is also a major oil shipping route. Now that oil prices have dropped, pirates there have taken to kidnapping crew members for ransom rather than siphoning off oil, as the abductions have proved more lucrative.

HOW NORTH KOREA IS BRINGING THE U.S. AND CHINA CLOSER

It’s Kim again. Nuclear tests, missile launches, the apparent assassination of potential rivals, threats to wipe out the U.S. and South Korea—North Korea seems like a nightmare right out of the Cold War. But it’s very much reality. North Korea has now raised tensions in East Asia to their highest level since Pyongyang’s first-ever nuclear test in 2006, which is highly to cause shifts in traditional global power roles.

Kim’s actions, paradoxically, are likely to lead to greater cooperation between China, the U.S., South Korea and other countries in the region. These countries do not see eye to eye all the time, but if there is something they can agree on, it is their shared dislike for a nuclear and provocative North Korea.

Talks and consultations

In 2002, Pyongyang admitted that it was developing a nuclear program. The result was the launch of the Six-Party Talks, a process bringing together the U.S., China, both Koreas, Japan and Russia to discuss North Korea’s denuclearization. The 2006 nuclear test was followed by a revival of these talks and an implementation agreement, which was the closest President George W. Bush’s government got to halting Pyongyang’s nuclear ambitions.

Barack Obama established a policy of “strategic patience” based on maintaining sanctions on North Korea while waiting for a change in behavior from Pyongyang, but it did not work—a view shared by Republicans and many Democrats. Historically, engagement has been the only way to rein in North Korea’s behavior. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush learnt that lesson;  now Donald Trump should.

The main reason “strategic patience” failed is that Pyongyang is paranoid about isolation. With talks and consultations, North Korea can at least see itself as part of the international community. This strengthens the hand of those North Koreans who want to engage with the U.S. and South Korea. Trump needs to recognize that multilateral talks are the way to go with the Kim regime.

The Six-Party Talks also served to sit Beijing and Washington on the same table on a regular basis and to discuss a key concern for both of them. They paved the way for the annual bilateral strategic and economic dialogues launched by the Bush administration, merged and continued during the Obama years. There is no indication yet that Trump wants to halt this dialogue—if anything, recent North Korean provocations make it even more important.

A window of opportunity for China

China is a huge cheerleader of the Six-Party Talks and the bilateral dialogue with the U.S. South Korea and the Bush administration praised Beijing for its hosting of the talks. Meanwhile, the dialogue has served to smooth relations with Washington. Even though the Chinese government is unlikely to receive the support of its neighbors—Japan, Vietnam and other states in Southeast Asia—as a global peacekeeper, Xi Jinping certainly wants to be more central to East Asian security. China wants a stable region to continue to pursue economic growth. Talks and dialogues will help with this.

Encouraged by U.S. withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Asia Pacific trade agreement signed by the Obama administration, China now sees a window of opportunity to take the lead in East Asia’s economic and diplomatic affairs, and North Korea’s nuclear problem is the window of opportunity for Xi Jinping.

The assassination of Kim Jong Nam has enraged Beijing. Let’s not forget, he was based in Macau under the implicit protection of China. Many Chinese are also worried about ongoing missile tests, as well as Pyongyang’s progress towards placing a nuclear warhead in an intercontinental ballistic missile. Doing so would allow the Kim regime to threaten to strike the U.S. Washington, logically, would react by beefing up its defenses against a possible attack. Beijing wants to stop this at all costs. Its adamant opposition to the deployment of the missile defence system THAAD in South Korea is living proof. The Xi government has powerful reasons to try to ease tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

More provocative action

Cooperation between China, the U.S. and East Asian powers on the North Korean nuclear issue is positive. The benefits go beyond reining in Pyongyang. Kim Jong Il brought Washington and Beijing closer to each other during the Bush years and his son, Kim Jong Un, seems bent on doing the same today.

We can expect more provocative action from North Korea in the coming weeks. China curbing imports of coal from its North Korea has probably increased Pyongyang’s fears of isolation. Talks involving Washington and Beijing would ease them. But Trump is unlikely to commit to them so soon after coming to power. For the time being, we should prepare ourselves for more shocks coming out of Pyongyang.

The round-the-clock isolation of Geert Wilders has lasted over a decade

Geert Wilders may be more popular than ever. His Party for Freedom (PVV) is in the running to become the largest in the Dutch parliament after elections on March 15. His ideas about the threat posed by Islam, long on the fringes of debate, are gaining traction in both Europe and the United States.

Yet, in his day-to-day life, Wilders is isolated. Because of threats against his life, the controversial far-right leader has lived under strict police protection since 2004. He is guarded round-the-clock by armed police. He lives in a government-provided safe house and sees his wife once or twice a week. When he appears in public, his escort must first “clear” the area before he can enter.

The PVV did not respond to requests for comment on the security detail. A representative of the Ministry of Security and Justice told WorldViews that the ministry could not answer questions about Wilders’s police protection or the threats against him because “it may jeopardize the person who’s under protection.” But there are some accounts that offer a glimpse into Wilders’s cloistered world.

Perhaps the most revealing is “Marked for Death: Islam’s War Against the West and Me,” a book written by Wilders and published in 2012.

“When I go to a movie theater, the last rows of seats are cleared for me and my guards,” Wilders wrote. “We come in after the movie has begun and leave before it ends — the last time I saw the beginning or the end of a movie in a Dutch theater, George W. Bush was still serving his first term as U.S. president.” Wilders’s safe house has a panic room he can run to in case, as he puts it, “one of the adherents of the ‘religion of peace’ makes it past my permanent security detail and into my home.”

The protection makes for some strange moments. A team of police officers accompanied him to his father’s funeral in 2005. Wilders says he broke down sobbing in front of them on the drive back to his safe house, prompting awkward reactions from the near-strangers. Even when traveling abroad, arrangements need to be made. According to Reuters, several safe houses have to be prepared for Wilders when he travels to Hungary to visit his wife’s family.

Believe it or not, the current security regime is a far cry from the early days of Wilders’s police protection, when he and his wife were sometimes required to sleep in a different location every night — including some period spent in a prison. When he did venture out into the real world, Wilders was forced to disguise himself in a “brown wig, a hat and an ill-fitting fake mustache.”

There’s little debate that such protection was needed. Wilders, who had been involved in politics since the early 1990s, first received a personal security detail in 2004. That is when extremists posted a video online threatening to decapitate him.

Later that year, Dutch filmmaker and provocateur Theo van Gogh was fatally shot while walking down a busy street in Amsterdam. Van Gogh’s killer, a Dutch man of Moroccan descent, pinned a five-page note to his body that said he and other Dutch politicians deserved to die for insulting Islam. With that killing, Wilders’s life changed forever.

Dutch critics of Islam, including Wilders and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, then a member of parliament, had their police protection increased after their names were found on an extremist group’s list of politicians to kill. The scale of the problem took Dutch authorities by surprise. “We haven’t seen this in the Netherlands since the 17th century, where a politician was murdered,” Vincent van Steen, then a spokesman for the Dutch intelligence agency, told The Washington Post in 2005.

Despite police protection, the threats didn’t subside. In 2008, Der Spiegel reported that Wilders had received almost 303 threats to his physical safety, making up about three-quarters of all threats against Dutch politicians that year. He also became a target for extremists around the globe. A popular Australian imam told his online followers to behead Wilders in 2010, and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula included his name on a list of public figures to attack in a magazine published in 2013.

Wilders’s security apparatus could be seen as controversial in the Netherlands. If nothing else, it comes at a hefty financial cost for the government. The cost of protecting the PVV leader has never been revealed, but millions of euros are thought to have been spent over the past 13 years — and there is no end in sight.

Some question whether Wilders’s political views have been influenced by his isolation. A man who once relished his freedom, traveling widely in Israel and the Arab world on a shoestring budget, now lives confined. Critics say his views on Islam have become harsher since threats against him were made.

“I think it is impossible to maintain, as Wilders does, that living under 24/7 protection and safe houses for 13 years has not affected him,” Cas Mudde, a Dutch political scientist at the University of Georgia who studies the European populist right, told WorldViews in an email. “He has hardened on Islam and on those ‘defending’ Islam. His struggle with ‘Global Islam’ has a clear personal aspect, which further polarizes him.”

Hans de Bruijn, an academic who has studied Wilders’s rhetoric, says that if Wilders’s arguments haven’t changed because of his isolation, his medium — in particular, his early and successful adoption of social media — had. “Twitter of course fits Wilders’s style, but there is also a practical reason for using Twitter — due to his police protection, the opportunities for Wilders to organize town-hall-like meetings with his supporters are very limited,” de Bruijn said.

Despite this, de Bruijn said, Wilders’s need for police protection is not widely discussed in Dutch politics. “They do not exploit the issue,” de Bruijn said, suggesting that the PVV leader “benefits from this political correctness.”

And if isolation is Wilders’s cross to bear, he claims to be proud of it. In October, he tweeted that he had lost his “freedom” 12 years ago. But though he missed it, he said, that very freedom is something that “has to be defended every day.”
